  • The Codrington Language Centre
    The Codrington Language Centre is based at The Codrington School adult classes are in Christ Church and it's primary focus is the teaching of English as a foreign language. The Centre creates a fun filled learning environment meeting the needs of international students who  have diverse interests and abilities. They are encouraged to learn from each other as they reach their common goal of improving their English language skills.

    The Codrington Language Centre enrolls students from many parts of the world.  Surrounded by native English speakers and being immersed in an English environment provides international students with the unrivaled opportunity to improve their English language skills while experiencing a new, exciting culture and form lastinging friendships.

  • The Programmes

     1) English Language Skills Course


    The Codrington School embraces the International Baccalaureate Organization’s (IBO) philosophy and methodology of teaching and learning. Wherever possible, The Codrington Language Centre Inc. has tailored its programme to include the IBO’s principles.

    Jesus A variety of programmes are available to overseas children and adults who are seeking to improve their English language skills. Each residential course comprises:

    • Academic, creative and performing arts classes.
    • Stimulating visits to places of cultural interest throughout Barbados.
    • Additional optional recreational activities such as tennis, golf, horse back riding, water skiing, swimming, surfing, sailing etc. are available for an extra fee depending on the selected activity. 

    Students attend class from Monday to Friday. Several additional hours each week are devoted to class preparation, library study and extracurricular activities. After school and during the weekends, students are encouraged to participate in organized activities, social and cultural outings and sporting events. These extra curricular activities provide quality leisure time, a balance to the academic work, and a chance to meet new friends and learn new skills.

    Course Levels
    All three courses offer basic,intermediate and advanced are 12 weeks long.Participants may take all three courses over a one year,three term period.Alternatively, the courses maybe taken in two-week, three week, four week or six week sessions.

    Each student is assessed through a short appraisal in English to determine his/her level of proficiency at the beginning of the course.

    The three courses are offered to students of all ages.

    Unit Topics

    Through its twelve unit topics per course level, The Codrington Language Centre programme is designed to expose students to the vocabulary and grammar structures associated with a cross section of life experiences.

    Language Skills

    The following four skills are taught at all levels with gradually increasing depth and intensity:

    (a)    Listening - with mime for basic course, comprehension (oral, aural and reading) and dictation for intermediate and advanced courses
    (b)   Speaking (with emphasis on pronunciation)
    (c)    Reading (with emphasis on pronunciation)
    (d)   Writing (with emphasis on creativity)


    Language Structure

    The teaching of language structure takes place in the classroom and is integrated into motivating activities within the framework of the thirty-six unit topics:

    • Vocabulary (spelling and pronunciation)
    • Phraseology
    • Full sentence
    • Statements positive, negative, interrogative (question) and imperative (directive)
    • All tenses and parts of speech

    2) Summer Camps

      Field Trips
      Field trips are scheduled to add an interesting dimension to the programme and the knowledge acquired as a result is integrated into the structured classroom activities the following day.

    Additional optional recreational activities available include: sailing, hiking, horseback riding, golf, tennis, swimming, surfing, water skiing, scuba diving, water sports, tropical floor shows and more! Please note that these activities are not included in the Programme Fee and carry a separate cost depending on the selected activity.

    Optional workshops offered include: drama, puppetry, music, dance/movement, art, pottery, photography, glass blowing, stilt walking, and cooking!

  • When are the programme fees required?
    Deposit: A 50% deposit is required 60 days prior to the commencement of the programme and the balance is due 30 days prior to the programme. This fee includes:
